Accessible adventure

Our aim is to make our adventures accessbile to all. If you have additional needs and would like to visit Treetop Trek or Treetop Nets, please call us on 015394 47186 and we will do our VERY best to make it happen.

We have been working hard to make our aerial adventures more accessible. Over the last 2 years, through our working partnership with The Bendrigg Trust, we have made significant progress in making our activities more accessible to wheelchair users in particular.

All full-time staff have taken part in two Disability Awareness Training days with local charity, The Bendrigg Trust, to help our staff grow in confidence in working with people with disabilities and help with the delivery of inclusive activities at our sites. The team have fully embraced this training and we’ve seen a huge change in their confidence and ability to welcome people with additional needs to Treetops.  Our team are currently learning Makaton with a sign a day!

We have invested in specialist hoist equipment and developed systems that allow wheelchair or restricted mobility users to access the top of our zipline tower and subsequently take part in our zipline activities. In addition, we have improved the breaking system at the bottom of our zipline which now enables a lower-impact landing, more suited to participants with mobility issues as well as improving access for wheelchair users by installing a ramp so we can get wheelchairs in and out to collect people after their Zip.

Our efforts have been recognised already:  In 2019, we were awarded Highly Commended in the Cumbria Tourism award for Accessible & Inclusive Tourism and we were incredibly proud to be shortlisted again for the ‘Accessible for All’ title in the national Staycation Awards.

Our activities are also popular with SEND children, particularly those with Autism, thanks to our patient and kind staff and we think our reviews speak for themselves:

“They were so good with my daughter who has autism and was terrified but was able to complete the green course with lots of help and encouragement never felt rushed… Thank you… you have given a young lady a real sense of achievement.”

“One of the things I loved the most about the session was that we were all able to do it together. I realise this sounds minor but when we have visited attractions such as the harnessed mid-air courses... Much like a family where there are older children and very young children I imagine where the abilities vary greatly so it was brilliant to all be enjoying something together.” (Our Altered life)

Wheelchair Zip parent: “Oli and I had a wonderful time on the big zip wire..the staff had a very positive and open mind set to embrace our son’s zest for adrenalin and adventure and enabled him to do the zip wire. They listened to our needs and with our knowledge of rope systems and specialist kit we worked together to achieve a fulfilling experience for him”

We can also accommodate group visits and recommend quieter times.

CARER GOES FREE

We operate a ‘Carer goes free’ policy for all our activities to enable users requiring additional assistance to visit on equal terms.
